English term or phrase: backstage films

"The tension between the surface glamour and the hard-knock reality of life was particularly evident in the many backstage films that were set in New York".

El texto se refiere a las películas cuyo argumento giraba en torno al mundo del teatro de musicales de Broadway. Desconozco si existe un término para este tipo de género en español, y utilizar "película teatral" no me convence mucho. Es para subtítulos, así que lo de meter una paráfrasis explicando lo que son los "backstage films" no sería posible.
