en español no se distinguiría, ya que un ordenador de sobremesa puede ser perfectamente de torre

la diferencia es dónde los coloques; por ello, tal vez lo que llaman deskside (al lado de la mesa) coincida más frecuentemente con un ordenador de torre.
"sinencambio", seguramente no se puede asociar un término a otro, ya que un ordenador "no de torre" también puede ser "desktop" (literalmente, "encima de la mesa"). (Me paice)

Asker: Gracias José Alberto, pero entonces ¿no existe diferencia con el desktop computer (que yo he traducido como ordenador de sobremesa)?

Se refiere a la parte que se mete bajo el escritorio o se coloca a un lado, en contraposición con la pantalla.

Lo de CPU se me ha escapado... Son las siglas para el procesador en inglés y yo le llamo así, por extensión, a la torre. No sé si será completamente correcto.
