It is not "self" (él/ella mismo/misma) it is "shelf", a term used in computing.
Definition in Wikipedia: The Shelf is an interface feature andd is used as a repository to store links to commonly used files, directories and programs, and as a temporary "holding" place to move/copy files and directories around in the file system hierarchy. The feature is also in Mac OS X, though dragging must occur by holding the Apple key while moving the files to the "shelf" toolbar area of the Finder.
I would say it is "estante o bandeja"...
