Explanation: Hola. Check it out with your client, it could well be a typo ( baNisters) if the text talks about a part of the stairway. "...hasta las barandillas utilizadas en su escalera". Does it make sense now with baNisters? Which, by the way, happens only in the plural form...Good luck :-)
