Lo que quiere decir es que, mientras el \"script\" (también llamado \"serie de comandos\" o \"serie de instrucciones\") de Java SÍ es sensible a las mayúsculas y minúsculas (lo que significa que si no se escribe correctamente con may./min. según sea el caso, no se ejecutará correctamente), el código HTML que está alrededor de él no lo es.

OJO: prefiero usar un término o frase en español, genérico, para \"script\" en esta frase, pero luego \"JavaScript\" tiene que quedar igual.

No es que esté alrededor sino que se refiere a que está en relación al script. En cuanto el término script no ha aparecido un equivalente en español que pueda substituirlo sin confusiones.
En este caso se evita usar el término sin perder precisión.
