I first gained familiarity with ACTFL's guidelines as part of my professional training in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at the Monterey Institute of International Studies (where I completed my Master of Arts in TESOL in 1999).

principals = principios
proficiency = competencia (lingüística)
