how do you abbreviate those in Spanish-- are they the same? do I need to write a period at the end of each?

España, y me imagino que la mayoría, sino la totalidad, de los países hispanohablantes están adheridos al sistema internacional de unidades. Como ingeniero, siempre he procurado seguir el SI con relación al uso de los simbolos de unidades.
