Se refiere a que un alumno puede escoger entre (1) un programa de estudios con una materia/especialidad mayor y otra menor y (2) un programa con dos materias/especialidades iguales. El estudiante que escoge este tipo de programa cursa el mismo número de asignaturas en las dos áreas. En EE.UU. un programa tal se llama un "double major" ('materia doble'). No sé cuál sea el equivalente en España.
