English term or phrase: grants and scholarships
I need two distinct words for academic scholarships and grants.

This is the title of the section. I know "becas" is often used to mean scholarships and/or grants. How can I distinguish between the two? I need two terms that are used in Porto Rico. Gracias!!

subvenciones y becas

Explanation:

What is the difference between grants and scholarships?
In general grants are based on financial need and scholarships are based on academic achievement, special skills or talent. Neither requires repayment upon completion of an academic program.

What’s the difference between grants and scholarships?
Grants are given to students who demonstrate financial need. Most grants come from federal or state sources. Scholarships usually recognize the student's academic achievement. Some scholarships consider other factors in addition to academic achievement such as major or program of study, community/school involvement, residency, etc. Some scholarships also consider financial need as criteria. Both grants and scholarships are considered "gift aid" because the money does not need to be repaid.

What is the difference between grants and scholarships? Grants are FREE NEED BASED monies while Scholarships are FREE MERIT BASED monies.

Grants and Scholarships
Grants and scholarships are similar in that they are both essentially free money that does not need to be repaid – and for that reason they should be the type of student financial aid you seek first, before you consider loans. Grants and scholarships are different, however, in their sources of funding, the purposes they support, and the basis they are awarded on.
Grants
Grants are disbursed on the basis of a student’s financial need, or in order to support a specific project, which is generally research. Most grants are federally sponsored, meaning that they are paid for at least in part by federal funds. The process of applying for grants begins with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Scholarships
Scholarships are an entire area unto themselves. They are often funded by private organizations or individuals, and may be used to support either very broad or very targeted goals. Many scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit, regardless of the recipient’s financial need. Scholarships may involve only modest amounts of money, or be available to a limited pool of applicants – for example, an annual civic club scholarship of $500 may be available only to recent graduates of the local high school. Because scholarships tend to award merit, however, even small awards carry a value beyond their financial worth by indicating that this group or individual thought you were outstanding in some way. To find out more about scholarships and how to find and apply for them, go to the college scholarships section of our website.

Becas

Explanation:
why do you need two terms? In Puerto Rico they both mean the same. You can generalize it by using "becas" it is the term that we all know in Puerto Rico.

You will not go wrong by using just one word if your target is Puerto Rico. If you try to use something else you might confuse people there. Believe me I know. I am from Puerto Rico.

Notes to answerer
Asker: I know... My challenge is that the document I am translating distinguishes between the two. I will most likely end up using "becas federales / otras becas" or something of this sort. Gracias.
