To Education experts,

The document is a letter pattern addressed to the parents of children with disabilities, where they are informed of the school's decision to suspend their child for five days due to misconduct. Such decision, made by the school principal, "is pending a superintendent's hearing".

This is the letter paragraph the meaning of which I am not altogether sure:

"In addition, a meeting will be convened for the purpose of conducting a **manifestation determination**".

Those familiar with education systems, can you please help me?

It is odd though that I have not found any genuinely Spanish/L.A. sites with this term.

A disruptive and dangerous behavior at school typically results in serious consequences, ranging from the child's suspension from the class for several days to a full expulsion from the school. If the child with a disability had been determined to have committed an offense that violated school rules and could result in expulsion for longer than ten school days, the IEP team must meet to determine whether the misconduct resulted from the disability. This is referred to as manifestation of determination hearing. It must be done within the first ten days of child's suspension.

Asker: Many thanks Liz! Now I really understand the meaning. "Determinación de manifestación", meaning that what must be determined is whether the child had true intention of acting wrong, or whether his conduct was the product of his disability. Thanks for your most useful contribution!
