English to Spanish translations [PRO] Education / Pedagogy
English term or phrase:phrase
Overall it appears that processing deficits may have impacted both XXX's ability to evidence on standardized measures English language proficiency, the actual development of academic vocabulary, basic reading skills and writing skill,
I can´t find sense in this sentence, it's also from a student's report, the teacher uses both and I see there are more than two things, thanks for your help.
Explanation: con eso solucionas cómo dividir y usar el "both"
En general, aparentemente los processing deficits han afectado tanto .... como (??)
Pero al tratar de analizar la frase, (con toda y la mala redacción), creo que falta la segunda parte.
Un intento de análisis del texto en inglés:
Overall
it appears that processing deficits may have impacted both
XXX's ability to evidence on standardized measures
//English language proficiency, the actual development of academic vocabulary, basic reading skills and writing skill,//
it appears that processing deficits affected the way in which
xxx ability to evidence on standardized measures (English…..)
What I underwstand:
Something (The processing deficits?) has not allowed that the standardized measures truly reflect XXX´’s English language proficiency, his/her true development of academic vocabulary, basic reading and writing skills (and whatever else is missing here, if anything)
From what I understand, what is between // is a list of the things that the standardized measures are not evidencing….
This is one of the things that the processing deficits impacted.
The other must be somewhere else…

¡Ahí está!
PROCESSING DEFICITS may have IMPACTED both
XXX's ability to
evidence on standardized measures English language proficiency, the actual development of academic vocabulary, basic reading skills and writing skills,//
as AUDITORY PROCESSING DEFICITS IMPACT his ability to transfer oral language skills into the development of academic skills."
the text talks about the impact of processing deficits in two areas
to understand the text, try paraphrasing in stages:
Processing deficits have impacted his ability to evidence on standardized measures English language proficiency (vocabulary, reading skills and writing skills)
Auditory processing deficits have impacted his (XXX) ability to transfer oral language skills into the development of academic skills
Está mal redactado y como que falta algo por ahí (además del both mal usado y el as que no está actuando como conjunción...)
anyhow, this is what I understand:
Due to processing deficits the standardized measures are not reflecting XXXX’s true English language proficiency (which includes his true development of academic vocabulary, basic reading and writing skills)
Due to auditory processing deficits, XXXX cannot transfer (use) his oral language skills to develop his academic skills.
ahora, esto ya se puede traducir con la terminología adecuada.
Perdón la coma no va. Después de esa "oración" sigue así " - as auditory processing deficits impact his ability to transfer oral language skills into the development of academic skills." Yo no entiendo el sentido.
Carolina: creo que te falta anotar el resto de la oración: ¡acabas con una coma! Tal vez el "both" se refiere a todo este chorizo (donde los "and" son subordinados), que sigue hasta un "and" que de verdad separe dos frases coordinadas.
