Explanation:
Should, I think read "spouses' and widows' children".

I am assuming the "remoter issue" will be translated with "descendencia mas remota" and this phrase is what "ésta" refers to in my translation above.

Or, if you use instead "descendientes mas remotas", then "éstas".
