Explanation:
En el Uruguay antes se le llamaba "Preparatorios" a secas. Ahora se dice "segundo ciclo de liceo", y ya se sabe que eso es lo que te habilita a entrar a la universidad.

Creo que lo mejor sería que esperaras una respuesta de alguien del país al que va la traducción.

Explanation:
En España la secundaria tiene [o tenía hasta muy recientemente] dos niveles: el BUP [básico] y el COU [superior].
En Cuba, antes, el Bachillerato [ciclo de 5 años], que podía ser en Ciencias y/o Letras, del que salías de cabeza para la Universidad. Actualmente existen la Secundaria Básica y la Secundaria Superior. Esta última te prepara para la carrera universitaria que elijas.

In the eastern U.S.A., there are private schools that specialize in preparing high school students for applying to the top universities, and they are spoken of as separate from the usual "high schools". Thus it could be considered as an institution for which there may not be a parallel in the target Spanish-speaking country.
