Necesitaría saber si hay alguna diferencia entre un Seminar y un Institute y cuál sería la traducción más aproximada para Institute. En el texto tengo también la palabra "Seminar". En un principio traduje Institute como seminario pero creo que hay una sutil diferencia. Muchas gracias. Jimena

Explanation:
When referring to "Institut" you can have it as a verb or as a noun. I guess you are looking for the noun. In that case an institute is an educational institution, especially one for the instruction of technical subjects.
It is also the building or buildings housing such an institution.
Or a usually short, intensive workshop or seminar on a specific subject.
Maybe it is the latter you are looking for.

On the other hand: SEMINAR can be defined (as a noun) as follows:
1.- A small group of advanced students in a college or graduate school engaged in original research or intensive study under the guidance of a professor who meets regularly with them to discuss their reports and findings.
2.-A course of study so pursued.
3.-A scheduled meeting of such a group.
4.-A meeting for an exchange of ideas; a conference.

Explanation:
Para mi un seminario es algo que ocurre, mientras que un instituto es un lugar (donde a veces ocurren seminarios, entre otras actividades). Parecido a la diferencia que hay entre las parablas "exposición" y "museo".

He encontrado algunas páginas con un contexto que parece indicar que los "institutes" no difieren mucho de los "seminars", pero parece que en los "institutes" los estudiantes son los protagonistas, mientras que los "seminars" el trabajo es también práctico pero está dirigido por el profesor.

Yo traduciría la tradicional diferencia entre institutes, seminars and lectures como clases prácticas (institutes), seminars (seminarios) y clases teóricas (lectures).

Yo prefiero "taller" como traducción de "workshop".
