Actualmente al profesional de la ingeniería que se requiere formar, debe ser de alto nivel con la preparación y capacitación adecuadas para hacer frente a los retos que plantea el crecimiento de la población, y que sepan desarrollarse en un contexto globalizado, con amplia conciencia para preservar y mejorar el medio ambiente haciendo uso de las nuevas tecnologías, mediante trabajo en equipo, así como honestidad y responsabilidad social, con habilidades de liderazgo.

La formación de los futuros profesionistas en Ingeniería Civil debe apuntar hacia el desarrollo de nuevas formas de aprendizaje, con una visión inter y transdisciplinaria que les permita abordar la problemática de su disciplina de forma integral, al articular y contextualizar los problemas sociales inherentes a su profesión.

Se requiere la formación de un profesional ético; con capacidad para generar información técnica relacionada con la Ingeniería; que le dé valor agregado a la toma de decisiones; con actitud emprendedora, visionaria y generadora de cambios en el ámbito socio-laboral; con sentido crítico, creativo, analítico, propositivo, comprometido y competitivo, además de una actitud de servicio al cliente y a la comunidad. En este sentido es necesario establecer programas que fomenten la capacidad intelectual de los estudiantes, mejorando su contenido temático para que permita promover actividades interdisciplinarias y multidisciplinarias y aplicar métodos pedagógicos para que el proceso enseñanza aprendizaje sea más eficaz.
