Me parece que como se trata de "spoken utterance" quedan mejor estas opciones. "Tack on: to add something new to something that is already complete"...y sigue: "especially in a way that looks wrong or spoils the original thing" e.g: a beautiful old house with a hideous modern extension tacked on at the back" (Longman Contemporary Dictionary) Como la oración mencionada comienza: "All that one can do.....", da esa impresión de que se le agrega algo nuevo que no es necesariamnete positivo. Como decir: "que le vamos a hacer"!" Bueno, suerte Rosina (coterranea) !
