English term or phrase: Honors Thesis

Hi,

I need to know how to say "honors thesis" in Spanish. From what I have read at this site http://www.unc.edu/depts/wcweb/handouts/honors.html, I believe it is a kind of thesis, but I do not know how it is called in Spanish.

The text is a bio of a doctor who has an "honors thesis in biomedical engineering".

Explanation:
Where required in US universities, senior projects are completed in order to graduate. According to the Univ. of Minn.'s website (above), all students in the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) are required to complete a senior project (which is different from Honors thesis, which only students in the Honors program would complete)

Melissa Mann: del programa académico de honor... an honor's thesis does NOT mean the thesis was honorable, rather that the thesis was written for the honor's course. this second option is only correct answer so far.

I realise this option in incorrect. I thought they were talking about the grading of the thesis.

In Spain, and probably in South America, there are also different types of thesis and end of degree projects such as "tesis, tesina, trabajo fin de carrera, proyecto fin de carrera, memoria, etc.". I think it would be very difficult -if not impossible- to find an equivalent of the original, therefore, an explanatory note might be much better.

What is an honors thesis,?

That depends quite a bit on your field of study. However, all honors theses have at least two things in common:

1. They are based on students' original research.
2. They take the form of a written manuscript, which presents the findings of that research. In the humanities, theses average 50-75 pages in length and consist of two or more chapters. In the social sciences, the manuscript may be shorter, depending on whether the project involves more quantitative than qualitative research. In the hard sciences, the manuscript may be shorter still, often taking the form of a sophisticated laboratory report.

Who can write an honors thesis,?

In general, students who are at the end of their junior year, have an overall 3.2 GPA, and meet their departmental requirements can write a senior thesis. For information about your eligibility, contact:
