Se puntuaron tres tipos de errores en los primeros ensayos de cada serie:
– Errores eficientes. Se definieron como errores de tipo no perseverante, que el sujeto se ve forzado a cometer al principio de cada serie, para tantear cuál de las categorías rige el nuevo criterio de clasificación. Estos errores sólo se puntuaron en el segundo ensayo de cada serie, y siempre que después no se cometiera ningún otro error en ésta. Un error eficiente refleja el proceso de tanteo necesario para el cambio eficiente de categoría.
– Errores aleatorios. Son errores no perseverantes, que implican un cambio a una categoría errónea, pero diferente de la anterior; por lo tanto, un uso ineficiente de la información en memoria a corto plazo [19,28]. Por ejemplo, cuando el sujeto se distrae a mitad de una serie, por lo demás, correcta. En casos extremos, los errores aleatorios pueden llevar al sujeto a perder constantemente el principio de clasificación correcto. Los errores aleatorios se computaron tanto en los ensayos iniciales como en los ensayos finales de cada serie. Téngase en cuenta que los errores aleatorios y los errores eficientes están mezclados en el sistema de puntuación del WCST convencional, a pesar de que existe evidencia de que reflejan procesos cognitivos muy dispares [19,28].
– Errores perseverantes. Resultan de clasificar una carta con el mismo criterio erróneo que se empleó en el ensayo previo, y se puntuó tanto al principio como al final de cada serie. Estos errores son relativamente raros en sujetos normales, tanto jóvenes como adultos [19].
