People tend to follow the crowd without examining the merits of a particular thing. ASI, "building a bandwagon" podría ser "convencer con el argumento de que todos lo hacen".
POR OTRO LADO: "building a bandwagon" también puede ser construir una idea que convenza a suficientes personas como para que otros también la sigan, por el ejemplo de los primeros convencidos.
LA EXPRESIÓN IDIOMÁTICA española no la conozco, aunque sí he oido "que se suban al tren"... por lo que estaría DE ACUERDO CON PATINBA Y CON EMMA RATCLIFFE.
