Dentro de la descripción de las evaluaciones que se le realizaron a un niño de preescolar con discapacidad del desarrollo, menciona "center time":
He transitioned back into the classroom. The class was having center time. He walked to the kitchen and began playing. He was prompted to put his nametag on the kitchen center. He needed visual, verbal and physical prompts to comply. Once he complied he returned to the kitchen area. He engaged in parallel play.

However, as educators we know that students are practicing and developing important reading, writing, and spelling skills and growing socially and emotionally.
Pensé en traducirlo como "grupos de aprendizaje", pero lo descarté porque creo que "centers" se refiere más al lugar que a los participantes. He propuesto abajo "zonas de aprendizaje", hay muchos enlaces en google que mencionan esta nueva tendencia pedagógica.
Podría ser, aunque no quisiera que se confundiera con institutos de aprendizaje (a los que también se los llama centros). A lo mejor grupos daría más la idea de que se divide a la clase...
I think it´s a kind of activity carried out in preschool. The children are devided into groups or "centers". This is what I have just found but I don't know if there's an equivalent in Spanish:
"Each child learns to interact in a classroom environment as well as a small group time with a specific teacher. Small groups allow for closer interaction and a focused time of learning. Each classroom is arranged into learning centers. Many learning opportunities occur as the children rotate through the centers. The teachers regularly change the learning centers to provide variety and expand the child’s learning experience. "
It's just a guess, but could "center time" refer to the time the child spends in the "kitchen center"?

Explanation: I'd never heard this term before, and my answer is a guess, must say I am studying Psychology also, so it may not be quite a wild guess, but I'm not sure at all. Though I would translate it as that, as a time to center oneself/concentrate.
