Hola. He visto que en muchos programas de estudios universitarios de EE.UU. cabe la posibilidad de no optar por una especialidad principal (major)desde el primer año, y en ese caso se dice que el alumno tiene un "major undeclared".

No sé muy bien cómo traducir ese 'undeclared'... ¿hay alguna traducción habitual?

Me parece que es una alternativa, ya que en USA también les llama "Open major" (en fin, como los billetes de avión ;) )
