English term or phrase: scaffold
Teacher should scaffold the writing project

"apoyar"
Explanation:
"Scaffolding" in the current controlling, assessment-mad educational climate has a very particular meaning, which is a euphemism. Officially it means to provide continuing teacher support to students in many types of projects. But in reality it is a strategy to raise high-stakes test scores in an age of political interference in the field of education. It extends teacher-directed activities and curtails student-centered learning. The students are told what to write about, how they will be graded, and ways to conform to a grading rubric. Then the teacher models how they should write, supervises "guided practice," and finally lets them try to duplicate what they have been told to do. Then follows revision, if they have not followed the instructions closely enough. Finally, when the teacher is satisfied that the corrected writing conforms sufficiently to the pre-established grading rubric, the work is "published" (rewritten and recopied). All this is called the "writing process," but most of the emphasis is on the finished product (guaranteed to receive a higher grade than if the students had not been kept on such a tight leash).

The situation I describe is taking place in California, and probably all over the United States. I devoutly hope that other countries have not fallen into this pit, or we will have an upcoming generation that only knows how to follow orders and never to think for itself.

estructurar

Explanation:
Scaffold literalmente significa "andamio". Me parece que estructurar puede ser una buena equivalencia. Saludos, Havett.
