I am not sure that translating Open Court helps in adding to comprehension here. It is a 40 year old program that began with the idea of casual, enjoyable, even outdoor reading groups, with emphasis on real literature. It has now evolved into a highly structured program that features dry texts tailoring reading to progressive phonics development, which supposedly prepares students for high-stakes testing, but has pretty much taken the joy out of reading.
