Traditionally, an engineer鈥檚 approach to conducting investigations has been based on past cases within the field. Previous works such as Bucciarelli鈥檚 industrial study [Bucciarelli 1988] using ethnographic techniques HAVE BECOME REQUIRED READING AS PREPARATION FOR CONDUCTING STUDIES. Likewise, the study by Hales [1987] represented a rare and valuable picture of engineering design practice at its time of publication.
