Tech/Engineering - Engineering: Industrial / Thermal fluid heater operations manual
English term or phrase: no blowdown or flashing losses
The heaters are designed to operate in a closed circuit and heat a process indirectly. Thermal oils have a number of significant advantages over pressurised water or steam including:
 Reduced maintenance due to non-corrosive nature of the oil, no freezing hazard, no scale formation.
 Reduced capital cost due to low operating pressure at high temperatures, requiring only low pressure pumps and pipes, simplified circuit without relief valves, water treatment or condensate facilities.
 In most cases the low operating pressure means that there is no requirement for registration as a pressure vessel.
 Reduced running costs, no water treatment chemicals required, ****no blowdown or flashing losses.*****

Sin perdidas por purgación y evaporación
Explanation:
Blowdown is water drained out of the system to prevent the buildup of deposits.

Advantage of thermal oil heaters:
No heat loss due to hot condensate and flash steam

Environmental Concerns
The water used in a steam system must be treated to reduce
corrosion and increase lubricity, among other requirements. The chemicals used, in some cases, are considered regulated and/or hazardous wastes. Blowdown and system leaks must be closely monitored, and the system’s water cannot be allowed to enter floor drains or flow into waterways. There is no blowdown in thermal oil systems. And spills can be handled using the same
procedures used for releases of lubricating oils.
Operating Costs
Steam systems lose energy through flash, blowdown and de-aeration cycles. Thermal oil systems operating at higher temperatures use less fuel because these losses are eliminated.
