Efectivamente, el "stinger" se ubica entre la tobera y la lanza flexible. Es un tubo de metal rígido cuya función es mecánica y de transferencia, ya que sostiene y transporta el vapor /aire/gas por dentro del mismo.
Tienes razón hay dos lanzas, la rígida y la flexible.

En la industria petrolera mexicana, a esto se le llama cola o guía. Así lo he oído por años en equipos de perforación. Además, el glosario inglés-español del Colegio de Ingenieros Petroleros de México da exactamente estas dos equivalencias.
Se trata de una proyección tubular o cilídrica de diámetro relativamente pequeño que extiende por debajo de una herramienta para ayudar a guiarla (por ejemplo, dentro de una tubería). También se usan a veces para guiar tuberías.
