As previously discussed, the air quality impacts predicted for the construction, pre-stripping and operation of the Project are expected to be less than the Peruvian ECA. In general, the air modeling community recognizes that air dispersion models predict ambient impacts within a factor of two of actual concentrations. Based on the emission factors used to estimate activity emissions and selection of the maximum total air quality impacts (i.e., the highest impact predicted using one year of meteorological data) for comparison to ambient standards, the model predictions for this Project are considered to be conservative (i.e., higher than expected) and will comply with ambient standards. During operations, the maximum total PM10 impacts are predicted to be up to 75 % of the ambient standard at the community receptors but only within a limited area near the mine boundary. Although the maximum total PM10 impacts are predicted to comply with ambient standards, there is some uncertainty that the model could underpredict the ambient impacts at locations near the Mine Pit and Waste Dump areas. |
