English term or phrase: pick a bottom
It is dangerous to look for a bottom in stocks. Remember that bear markets that coincide with recessions tend to last 400 days, and we are only about a third of the way there if this is a typical bear-market recession. So, it is difficult to pick a bottom, especially because we know that more bad news is on the way.
