b) col crespa (B. oleracea L. var. acephala subvar. laciniata L.): forma que presenta hojas de superficie muy arrugada o rizada, que semeja textura de esponja, de borde muy sinuoso, y de color verde o morado. En otros idiomas se denomina kale (inglés), chou frisé (francés) y cavolo riccio (italiano). Los cultivares se diferencian principalmente por el color y lo crespo de sus hojas.

My (not very good) paraninfo diccionario de gastronomía y hostelería gives this as the US for Acelgas. In UK they are known as chard, I believe.

neutral  Hermeneutica: Collins Concise dice "beets" por acelgas (??) pero en Argentina me acuerdo que las usábamos en reemplazo de la espinaca porque tenían un sabor similar y es también la descripción de los collard greens ...

agree  Hermeneutica: Yo nunca las comí bajo ese nombre ... :) .. en serio, el mayor problema es que estas cosas tienen diferentes nombres en distintos países - p.ej. la gastroteca es de dónde?? Ni porotos tienen!

  -> No existen en nuestras tierras, según el sitio chileno. Por eso es mejor buscar por nombre científico, así vas sobre seguro. :-))
