Una de esas curiosidades del idioma inglés. La palabra \"cole\", en realidad no existe en el idioma, y col es \"cabbage\". La palabra \"slaw\" tampoco existe por sí misma. Lo que sí existe, según el Webster, es la palabra \"coleslaw\", una ensalada de col cruda picadita, con mayonesa y otras cosas. Es como aquello de que tenemos \"non-chalant\" y \"non-plused\" pero no tenemos \"chalant\" ni \"plused\".

agree  Ltemes: Al ver su respuesta me fui a averiguar la etimología de la palabra "slaw", en inglés, y acabo de enterarme de que proviene de la palabra holandesa "sla" = salad. Cada día se aprende algo nuevo :o) Cheers!

  -> yes, and if we have "cole slaw", why not corn slaw, or okra slaw, or whatever slaw, aunque la palabra "no exista"
agree  Neil Phillipson: I'm not exactly a culinery expert, but I'll have a go. Coleslaw is very popular here (UK), added to salads, potatoes, etc. as a 'dip', a savoury addition that adds extra flavour to other foods. Is it possible to 'barbecue' such a thing (mayonnaise...)?

  -> well, maybe the corn slaw skips the mayo, or maybe the roast the corn first, then add the mayo,, who knows? Like I said, I am willing to try it
