In a sense both the right-wing groups attacks as well as the State attacks have actually made the films more public and there have been more noise made of the films, whether people got to see them or not, at least they’ve heard about them.

es una forma de decirlo, en todo caso es lo que significa. Una de las acepciones de public es conocido.

otra idea sería interpretarlo como que dieron más publicidad a las películas.
