English term or phrase: snorted at
When business leaders emphasized a peaceful recovery from the depression rather than a war that would bring expansion abroad, Roosevelt snorted at Ohio Senator Mark Hanna, one of their biggest spokesmen: "We will have this war for the freedom of Cuba, in spite of the timidity of the commercial interests."
Darth Sidious

(le) bufó al

Explanation:

neutral María Teresa Taylor Oliver: Perdón, Webster's indica "snort=to express scorn" y "scorn=an emotion involving both anger and disgust : passionate contempt : DISDAIN".
