Rafael, no es que no existan, es que la traducción es para hispanos en EE. UU. Consulta las referencias que incluí y comprobarás que hasta el gobierno federal lo llama así, Descubrimiento de América. Lo que haga cada país es igualmente válido, pero en ese país.

The issue here is what Adriana and Marina (down below) have said: the audience. This is not about how we believe it should be translated, or how it would look or sound better, or how to honor someone (whose title of discoverer is, by the way, very much in doubt); this is about the audience, about how it is known and called and referred to among Hispanics in the US, what is familiar to them. I´ve been living in the States for more than 40 years; I've never heard or read anything other than Día de la Raza o Día del Descubrimiento. The only place where this date is called "Columbus Day" is in the US, and exclusively in English. There is no Día de Colón, Día de Cristóbal, Día de la Diversidad, ni día de las banderitas, for that matter, in the US, in Spain or in Latin America, and I dare to say there has never been. Many years ago, in each of our own countries, it was Día de la Raza, that is how we were taught in school.

I think your friends suggestion is the best, since they are exactly the target of your tranlsation. I would never use Dia de Colón or Día de Cristóbal Colón because it is almost weird!, of course, for me as a Mexican living outside Mexico but in another Latino country.

My suggestion (in my Answer): "el 12 de octubre, el Día de Colón".
Many readers and/or potential clients may be no Latin.

Hola, dia de la raza cambia todo el sentido de la fecha, que nada tiene que ver con la "raza" sino con el hombre que descubrio America. De modo que me inclino por el Dia de Cristobal Colon, aunque para sonar mas comercial tamien se podria decir, "dia de cristobal" o "dia de colon". Si le llaman dia de las Americas, el pobre Colon se queda fuera, mas con su nombre, se perpetua la idea, al fin y al cabo, el fue el descubridor no???

Well, I decided to go to the source, I called several Latin friends from my church and asked them what they were familiar with and they all said that "Dia de la Raza" was definitely the right choice. Thanks to all!

Desde hace un tiempo ya, hay una tendencia reivindicatoria hacia los pueblos originarios de América, por lo que "Día de la Raza" está siendo cambiada en los diferentes paises siguiendo diferentes criterios.- Tengan en cuenta la propuesta en la Argentina:"Día de la diversidad Cultural Americana".- De no ser esta la frase elegida, me inclino por "Día del Descubrimiento de América" (NO usaría Día de la Raza.- Un abrazo!

Henry is right; on the East coast we say Descubrimiento de América. In addition, here in the U.S.A. I do not think we have ever heard it being referred to by any other names than the two proposed by Adriana.

What if we said "Dia de Cristobal Colon" so it matches "Columbus Day" better? The whole point of this ad is to make sure Spanish speakers (wherever they may be from) know WHEN the sale will take place (date).... any more thoughts?

US Hispanics are a diverse lot, but Mexicans are in the majority overall and they always call it "Dia de la Raza". Of course it can depend on the area of the US; on the east coast, other ethic groups far outnumber Mexicans and may use different names for it.
