Entonces pondría algo así:
...que son, en esencia, cartas en las que los candidatos se **promocionan** diciéndoles a los empleadores en qué forma les pueden ser útiles / los pueden ayudar.

También pensé **venderse** pero puede tener connontaciones negativas. Fijate.
