grounds in this sense is any kind of outdoor space within the facilities of a public place eg. school grounds, park grounds, building grounds, golf course, hotel grounds etc.
a grounds worker is anyone who works in these grounds either doing maintenance, gardening or landscaping. They can also be called groundskeepers.
