poner las barbas en remojo

Explanation:
This is an expression that means that when you face a difficult task, you "pones las barbas en remojo" and study or make your best effort to achieve what you want.

Hope to have been clear enough. If not, ask me :)

Poner a la otra(s) persona(s) primero

Explanation:
No estoy de acuerdo con Serena. Poner las barbas en remojo is used when someone close to you is in trouble, and you should learn from it so it doesn't happen to you.
I don't think putting yourself in the back burner has an exact translation into Spanish, but "poner a ------ primero / antes de mi propia persona" sends the same message.
