Medicaid Monthly Spend-down (Surplus Income) for Healthfirst CompleteCare (HMO SNP)

Monthly spend-down payment

Spend-down amounts or surplus amounts is the amount of net available income determined by the New York City Human Resources Administration that a member must pay monthly to Healthfirst CompleteCare (HMO SNP) in accordance with the requirements of the medical assistance program.

The amount for which you will be responsible for paying to us will depend on your eligibility for Medicaid and Medicaid’s monthly spend down program

Spanish translation:aportación limitada (deducción de gastos médicos)
Explanation:
"Medically Needy (Spend Down)-The "spend down" is the process of deducting medical costs from your income until your income reaches a certain level and you become eligible for Medicaid (not in all States)."

"Médicamente necesitado (aportación limitada [spend-down]) es el proceso de deducir los gastos médicos de sus ingresos hasta que éstos alcancen cierto nivel que lo haga a usted merecedor de Medicaid [...]"

http://www.unos.org/docs/Partnering_Spanish.pdf

"Spend down” is the process of reducing the assets an individual possesses in order to qualify for Medicaid. Simply stated, spend down is nothing more than spending one’s money until the appropriate asset limit is reached. At present the asset limit in the State of New Jersey is $2,000.00 for the “Medicaid Only” program and $4,000.00 for the “Medically Needy” program. It is important to understand, however, that different rules apply to married couples than apply to individuals."

Se van deduciendo los gastos médicos de los ingresos de aquellos que optan a recibir la asistencia sanitaria de Medicaid...

"Medicaid, also known as Title 19, is a medical assistance program for low-income people who are elderly (65 years and older), disabled, blind, or who meet some other category of eligibility. Some people have so little income that they automatically qualify for Medicaid. But ***seniors and people with disabilities, whose incomes exceed the income limit, may qualify for Medicaid if they have medical bills that equal or are greater than their "excess" income***. *** The process of subtracting those medical bills from the individual’s income over a six month period is called a Medicaid "spend-down.***"

Saludos.
