I apologize, I didn't realize that setting the question for the first validated answer made it automatically "not for points".
Normally we enjoy getting the points (I know I do!)

Hi Monique, thanks for your post. First of all, I am sorry if I have offended anyone by not awarding points.

I selected the "first validated answer" mode because from the explanation given on Proz, I understood that this meant a Spanish term would be arrived at by a consensus of users. I am not a native speaker of Spanish, therefore I thought this was the wisest option.

Proz says that FVA allows professionals to make the final decision, and given that I am not a native speaker, it seemed to me to be presumptuous to grade people’s replies.

If this is not the case, I would be glad to know, since I am new to this website.

Just out of curiosity, I want to know why someone would choose not to give points out to a colleague who takes the time to answer their question? Especially when it doesn't cost you anything.
