Un Decreto Real es un decreto expedido por un Monarca para legitimizar un cuerpo incorporado, tales como una ciudad, compañía o universidad. En la Europa Medieval las ciudades eran los únicos lugares en los que era legal realizar comercio, y los Decreto Reales eran la única manera de establecer una ciudad. El año en que una ciudad era decretada es considerado el año en que a ciudad fue "fundada", irrespectivamente de si había un asentamiento anterior.
