English term or phrase: legal translator

I was wondering how to translate "legal translator" into Spanish. In English, as well as in French (traducteur juridique), we specify that the translator's field of expertise is the Law. Now, in Spanish, we usually say "Traductor Público", with its equivalent in Spanish from Spain "Traductor Jurado". The problem arises since in Canada, for instance, the Traductor Público is not necessarily a legal expert, as in Argentina, Uruguay, Spain, etc., but a translator that can perfectly do general or technical translation but is certified by the Traslators Association. So, what is it? ¿Traductor especializado en Derecho? ¿Traductor jurídico? Certainly not Traductor Legal...

Gracias. Como lo que el señor hace es traducir temas jurídicos, al margen de que es miembro del Colegio de Traductores de Ontario, voy a ir con Traductor jurídico, que sería el equivalente exacto. ¡Saludos y Felices Pascuas!

Es como yo lo traduciría, en general y para todos los países, ya que eso refleja el hecho de que está certificado por alguna organización reconocida en el ámbito de la traducción/interpetación y no surgen dudas en cuanto a qué es un traductor público, jurado o un perito traductor (así les dicen en México a los que reciben un certificado del Poder Judicial de la Federación). Al final, todos caen dentro de la categoría de traductores certificados (por alguna entidad).

Perdón, quise decir traductor.
Y se me olvidó comentar que en México, al escuchar el término traducto jurídico se tenderá a pensar en un traductor especializado en Derecho.

Explanation:
Con respecto a mi acuerdo con la propuesta de Rosa María, quisiera aclarar lo siguiente:

Aunque no sea título oficial en ningún país, “traductor certificado” es el término más general que incluye el caso propuesto por BAmary, esto es, un traductor no necesariamente especializado en temas jurídicos pero que es competente y ha sido certificado/habilitado por alguna entidad certificadora (Poder Judicial en México, Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores en Costa Rica, Ministerio del Interior y Justicia en Venezuela, etc.).

En Venezuela, el título oficial es “intérprete público”, pero me parece inapropiado e inexacto; “traductor jurídico” se entendería como “traductor especializado en temas jurídicos”.

“Traductor jurado”, el término que se usa en España, también sería inexacto e inapropiado en Venezuela, porque cualquier traductor competente, aunque no tenga título ni certificación oficial (particularmente en idiomas “raros”, como vasco y finlandés, por ejemplo) puede ser juramentado por el Ministerio de Justicia o por un tribunal competente para realizar una traducción o interpretación en un caso específico.
Es “traductor jurado” para ese caso específico, pero no es “traductor público”, ni “traductor certificado” ni “traductor jurídico”.

So, I would use the following translations:

traductor jurídico => legal translator (specialized in translation of legal & law-related documents)

traductor certificado => certified translator (officially qualified to translate all types of documents, including technical, legal & law-related documents)

traductor jurídico => legal translator (specialized in translation of legal & law-related documents)

“traductor jurado/juramentado” => any translator who has made an “affidavit of accuracy” with respect to a specific translation
