English term or phrase: Let’s not look a gift horse in the mouth.
context: The scene is an attorney / client conference. Prosecution has brought a homicide charge down to manslaughter. Defense counsel expects his client will take this as good news, but he doesn't. (Habrá algo aparte del obvio '...colmillo de caballo regalado.') “Whether homicide or manslaughter doesn’t matter to me. I can’t just go along with years of jail time for something I didn’t do. I won’t plead guilty.”
Mike grew serious. “The only alternative is to go to trial.”
“École. Amen.”
“There you go. So be it.
Mike didn’t seem to have expected this. As common among defense attorneys he wanted to be sure of his client’s decision. “Their word is good; if they say ‘manslaughter’, that’s the charge they’ll bring. Let’s not look a gift horse in the mouth.”
