English to Spanish translations [PRO] Law/Patents - Law (general) / illicit drugs
English term or phrase:Proffer Agreement
Dominicana...
I have submitted an answer in view of the fact that there is no natural equivalent in the DR. Therefore, I have offered what I believe to be the best functional equivalents for the queried term. Please take a look at my answer and decide for yourselves.
Si no existe,...
Empezamos temprano hoy, ¿no?
Sorry to just offer negatives, but aside from generic ways of saying proffer agreement that would correctly communicate such, I don't have a Dominican equivalent. I have a couple of contacts that I could try, but will have to wait till next week to see what they use down there. That's if they have them there. I know that the DR has cooperation agreements; I don't know if they have proffer agreements, per se.
I will if you are sure that is the term you are seeking. All the research indicates that there is no specific term, or at least, one that conveys the idea. Nevertheless, glad to help! Saludos.
I like that 2nd one; that the accused may be called into court as a witness is part of the two-page agreement—many thanks!
Will someone propose 'convenio de cooperación testimonial'?
Here is another which I just came across: http://www.translators-translate.com/question_thread_archive...
Convenio de cooperación testimonial
Oferta de Consentimiento o Acuerdo
Word or term in question:
proffer agreement
Context:
a document signed by accused who wishes to cooperate with the government
Apart from that I can't come up with anything else for the moment! HTH.
Yes, Taña, two and a half years later I'm still looking. I've used 'oferta', and other phrases in the interim, but an equivalent type of agreement has to exist in Spanish-speaking jurisdictions...

However, what is still unclear in your query is the fact that "proffer agreements" are not complete immunity agreements. Although the government cannot use actual proffer session statements against the individual in its case-in-chief, the information provided can be used to follow up leads and conduct further investigations. If those leads and further investigations lead to new evidence, the new evidence can be used to indict and convict the individual who gave the information in the proffer session.
Proffer agreements typically contain a clause allowing the government to impeach you with your proffer statement in a subsequent proceeding if your testimony is inconsistent with your proffer. Is this the case with your present situation?
Proffer, Cooperation Agreement, Plea Bargain—though sharing some similarities, are not the same. If equivalent 'convenios' exist in Spanish-speaking jurisdictions, I seek to know what they are called.
Yes, Sandro, a Proffer is not a Cooperation Agreement. It is as you describe it; authorities ask questions to which they already know the answers as a veracity test...
I thought that what you describe is a plea and cooperation agreement. My understanding is that a proffer agreement means that the defendant can speak to the authorities to see if they need his information. If they don't, the defendant is guaranteed that nothing he says during the proffer session will be used against him in court. The nick name for a proffer agreement is "Queen for a day." Is this the case in your jurisdiction?

12 hrs confidence:
proffer agreement

Explanation: I spoke with someone at the DR’s Prosecutor’s Office and he said there is no written agreement for a proffer. They simply call the proffer session a reunión con el imputado. In other words, there is no particular name for this (proffer) session either.
