Por si a alguien le sirve, estoy traduciendo un contrato en el que este verbo no se usa en su acepción de "compensar por un daño" sino en la de "exonerar de responsabilidad". He leído bastante sobre esta cuestión, controvertida incluso entre juristas ingleses, si bien no soy una experta en la materia. Al parecer, se trata de una cuestión bastante específica del mundo anglosajón. Véanse los enlaces que incluyo de referencia.

Otros términos relacionados que aparecen en mi traducción y, a continuación, mi propuesta:

"indemnified party" = "parte exonerada"
"indemnity clause" = "cláusula de exoneración de responsabilidad"
