English to Spanish translations [PRO] Social Sciences - Linguistics / Translation Theory
English term or phrase:Foreignization and Domestication
I'm not sure if these simple terms in English have an easy answer in Spanish. I know the verb "domesticar" exists, but it seems to refer to domesticating animals.
The context is Schleiermacher's translation theory where a translator either foreignizes the text (brings the reader to the author) or domesticates the text (brings the author to the reader).

It's actually much worse in English. In Spanish both words are etymologically sound. "extranjerización" is very usual, and "domesticación" (latin domus = casa), refers not only to animals but to anything that becomes "de casa", i.e. ours as opposed to foreign.
The terminology appearing both in English and Spanish is absolutely incredible!! How to destroy two languages in two easy steps!!!
I know both languages are malleable but this is incredible!!
