English term or phrase: commuting distance
This new organization seems to be quite active in providing programs on stress management, relaxation training, and back educations for k-12 school systems and industry within commuting distance of Moorhead.

Spanish translation:"...a una distancia de transporte cercana de Moorhead"
Explanation:
Yet another choice. Thought that commuting "relates" to "transport" (by metro, car, bike, bus, chopper!, etc.) and so it should be noted in the Spanish text. You can also try: "...a corta distancia de transporte desde Moorhead")
Yours always :)

en el área de Moorhead y sus alrededores

Explanation:
"to commute" es lo que llamamos una cápsula cultural, para los hispanohablante -al menos, los rioplatenses-; no tenemos un término en español. En Argentina, por ejemplo, a veces se viaja 2 o más hs. diarias al trabajo o a estudiar. Hay que "desverbalizar" la frase.

a una distancia cercana de los hogares en Moorhead

Explanation:
commute= the trip or its duration or distance from home to work. A commuter is a person that performs the same daily trip from home-to-work-to-home. The commuting distance has no exact translation in Spanish. This new organization is trying to locate its programs relatively close to industries, schools and homes. Therefore I go for: distancia cercana a los hogares de Moorhead

aldredores, etc

Explanation:
'Commuters' generally refers to people travelling to work using public transport. To live within 'commuting' distance' implies living
in the suburbs or metropolitan area of a town/city (although cases have been known of '6-10 hour commuters in GB!)

within commuting distance of Moorhead

'(ubicados) en los adrededores de Moorhead' would be a succinct translation

usage note

Explanation:
Ailish says that "to commute" usually refers to the use of public transport. This is not the case in US English. It is occasionally used in contradistinction to private transport, but not often, and such phrases as "commuter traffic" are well established.

distancia conmutativa

Explanation:
According to the Harper Collins Dictionary

Commute (conmutar) - viajar a diario de casa a trabajo.

Esta nueva organización parece ser bien activa proveyendo programas de manejo (control) de tensión (stress), entrenamiento para el relajamiento y educación atrasada para sistemas escolares de K-12 e industrias dentro de una distancia conmutativa en Moorhead.

Good Luck!

See below,

Explanation:
That's the problem with English: too pragmatic and therefore, occasionally to synthetic. The correct translation to Spanish would be "A una distancia de Moorhead que permita el viaje de ida y vuelta en poco tiempo".

dentro de los alrededores de Moorhead

Explanation:
I HAD to answer this one as I'm a Minnasotan. The first answer was actually correct - you'd have to use alrededores as there realy is no term for commuting distance in Spanish. Good luck!

Explanation:
... para los estudiantes y obreros industriales de Moorhead
or
que estudian o trabajan en Moorhead
though in the latter case you'd probably
want to figure out some way around "estudiantes ... que estudian". Let "commuting distance" be implied.
