|English term or phrase: sourcing, crossloading, transload|
|These are terms used in transportation.|
1.)Sourcing is to buy a needed product from a third party (source).
2.)Is to move the load from an incoming truck to another truck(s) in a warehouse, and from there send the newly loaded trucks to a clients destination.
3.) Transload. ????
Please see below:
Sourcing is not the same as outsourcing. Outsourcing means contracting from a third party. Sourcing is just 'establecer contacto comercial'. I know that you'll find many websites at Internet confusing these concepts. As a consultant, I've come closer to them.
Your crossloading concept is quite right, it's just moving from one truck to another. When the movement is taking place from a truck to another in a different duck, it is called 'cross-docking'. This a practice quite common these days with the advent of JIT and JIT II.
Transloading means transfering the load to a different carrier or means of transportation. A shipment may arrive at a specific port through a local carrier and it is then transferred to a ship to be delivered to a customer located across the ocean. It can also be transferred to be shipped by air. When transloading happens, it usually involves a Customs export-import transaction.
Transloading can also be used for computer files. In this case, it means downloading and uploading your files again. Hope this helps. Good Luck!
