Marisela Hernandez: si usas zeta hay una confusion entre la letra latina y la letra griega, Z es una letra muy usada como incognita en matematica y teta griega tambien es muy usada como punto por ejemplo; si tienes una funcion Z(x,θ) no puedes usar zeta para las 2 variables

Con referencia a la nota de Clarisa Moraña, la sexta letra del alfabeto griego (Ζ, ζ) es "dseda" según la RAE.

He encontrado dos referencias que indican la diversidad en la fonética y ortografía españolas para la octava letra (Θ, θ) y la sexta (Ζ, ζ). Wikipedia también hace referencia a la evolución de la RAE en la materia.

Volviendo a la cuestión principal que nos ocupa (Θ, θ), parece que zeta, teta y theta son todos usos vigentes en español.

-> Muchas gracias. De las matemáticas que recuerdo y he visto, me parece que se usa muchísimo más la letra griega, p.ej., "cos θ", o "coseno de θ", y no "coseno de zeta/teta/theta". En cuanto a pronunciación, como se lee "zeta" (con seseo si se practica).

Marisela Hernandez: zeta es la letra Z del alfabeto latino, teta es una letra griega; ?como traduces entonces Z(θ )? : se trata de 2 variables diferentes, en matematicas no puede haber indeterminaciones en el nombre de las variables para una misma formula

Debo rectificar. Mi aprobación a la respuesta de Carlos fue debida a un error de interpretación mío. De acuerdo con María Moliner, su propuesta se refiere a la octaba letra del alfabeto griego, no a la sexta.
