English term or phrase: Curve fit
This is the complete sentence, from a document regarding echocardiography measurements:

Such a curve fit can be applied to the diastolic LV pressure-volume relation of a single beat or to the end-diastolic pressure-volume relation constructed by fitting the lower right corner of multiple pressure-volume loops obtained at various preloads

(The sentence previous to this one reads: "On the other hand, it is possible to characterize LV chamber stiffness over
the duration of diastole by the slope of the exponential fit to the diastolic pressure-volume relation"; LV stands for "left ventricle")

I would also appreciate any suggestions on how to translate the term "fitting (the lower corner...)".

Up until this point in the text, I had translated "fit" as "ajuste" ("adjustment") which seemed appropriate, but when I got to this part, I don't know, it seems to be something else, specific to mathematicians maybe?

Thank you very much

Ajuste curvilíneo
Explanation:
"Fit" is a term used in statistics, which means in this case to find out how the data acquired in the echocarciography adjust to predefined "standard" curves such as polinomial or exponential among others.
So, "exponential fit" should be "ajuste exponencial" and "curve fit" should be "ajuste curvilíneo".
So for "such a curve fit" I would sugest "Este tipo de ajuste curvilíneo"

curve fit
ajuste de curvas/ajuste de curva

Explanation:
The empirical determination of a curve or function that approximates a set of data.
Curve fitting, also known as regression analysis, is used to find the "best fit" line or curve for a series of data
points. Most of the time, the curve fit will produce an equation that can be used to find points anywhere along
the curve. In some cases, you may not be concerned about finding an equation. Instead, you may just want
to use a curve fit to smooth the data and improve the appearance of your plot. KaleidaGraph provides curve
fits that can be used in both of these scenarios.

Example sentence(s):
  • El procedimiento de ajuste de la curva por regresión o por mínimos cuadrados es el método analítico para describir con el menor error los parámetros de la función deseada.
  • Se utilizaron dos métodos (monoexponencial y biexponential) para el ajuste de curvas.

curve fit
Ajuste de la curva

Explanation:
I would rather translate "curve fit" as "ajuste de la curva" since the idea is to express that it is the curve the one that fits into the data, and not the other way round.

I agree "fit" would certainly be "ajuste".
