English term or phrase: working end
Hi there!

I'm translating a text about furnances and the term "working end" appears constantly, can anybody help me with it?

Here's some context:

"The XXX working end is designed to condition molten glass."

"The working end is specially designed for container glass manufacture."

Thanks in advance!
