En este manual de instalación, aparecen con frecuencia ambos términos, 'collector' y 'header'. Si collector va unido a solar lo voy traduciendo por 'panel solar' pero si va solo (según sugiera el contexto), creo que hay que traducirlo por colector (en el sentido de tubo colector o distribuidor). El problema surge en frases como la siguiente, en que aparecen ambos:

"If a PTRV is not installed on the collector, steam will form in the header. Eventually some steam may feed back to the storage tank via the return line. Así pues, "collector", en este caso, es el "colector de energía", es decir, el panel solar.

Por otra parte, "coolant exit header" lo traduce como "colector de salida del refrigerante", lo cual me parece absolutamente apropiado en este caso (aunque aquí quizá habría que cambiar "refrigerante" por "intercambiador de calor").

En un motor, "colector" = "manifold" (escape y admisión). Supongo que la diferencia es que, siendo el cometido idéntico al de "header", en este caso se trataría de un "header" con múltiples tubos de entrada y / o salida.

colector múltiple vs. individual


Explanation:
De la referencia citada en Wikipedia: "Headers consist of individual primary tubes for each cylinder, which then usually converge into one tube called a collector." Ambos, los "headers" y el "collector" componen el "manifold". Aunque la frase desribe motores de explosión, el concepto también se puede aplicar a cualquier sistema de control de fluidos, gases o líquidos, que provienen de diferentes puntos y terminan en uno solo.

Noto que se debe instalar una válvula PTRV en el colector. No parece factible instalar una válvula en un panel solar que sea accionada por temperatura y presión (temperatura si, pero presión no). La válvula implica formar parte del sistema fluídico, que en este caso aparentemente es agua caliente, y donde se trata de evitar el sobrecalentamiento y la producción de vapor.
